Vision & Values

Abbey Grange C of E Academy is a successful, caring and happy school located in the north-west of the city of Leeds. Our 1600 students come from all over Leeds, the majority staying on to our thriving Sixth Form. Whatever their age, our ethos remains the same:

‘In partnership to Educate, Nurture & Empower’

This is underpinned by our Christian vision.

Our Christian Vision

We embrace Jesus’ call to life in all its fullness. As a diverse community, we celebrate difference and build character through innovative and imaginative practice that seeks to transform lives. Enabling everyone to flourish means finding identity, purpose and value in God as we journey together.

‘My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.’
John 10 v 10

Sixth Form Vision

Our vision is that our sixth form provides an environment which is welcoming, caring, calm, disciplined and purposeful and which will stretch our young people academically, support them pastorally and help them flourish socially and spiritually.

We are committed to providing high quality education for all within an ethos which seeks to work in partnership to educate, nurture and empower through academic, vocational, mental, physical, cultural and spiritual opportunities so that each individual is able to achieve their full potential.

Our educational philosophy and vision is underpinned by our founding values:

  • We believe in the value and potential of every young person.
  • We are committed to high standards of achievement.
  • We cultivate a positive mind set attitude built on the belief all students can make exceptional progress.
  • We will deliver high quality teaching to ensure powerful learning.
  • We will support and prepare students for University or other opportunities relevant to their personal career paths.
  • We will provide rich additional opportunities for all.
  • We will promote an educational community rooted in the Gospel values of humility, service, justice and compassion so we can nurture and empower our pupils to become independent, responsible, dignified, respectful, self-motivated and caring members of society.

Defining Features and Characteristics of the Sixth Form

  • All students are aged 16 – 19 and full time
  • There is a strong focus on maximising student achievement, raising aspirations and ambition, and on the quality of teaching and learning
  • The curriculum focus is on Advanced Level with a wide range of A Levels and Vocational Diplomas on offer
  • There is a strong focus on progression to Higher Education
  • The admissions policy is inclusive and seeks not to place barriers to participation
  • Student safeguarding is afforded extremely high priority.

Collaboration with Parents and Carers

We value and encourage the involvement of parents in helping us to support students throughout their time at Sixth Form. While we expect students to accept responsibility for their own learning and academic progress, we recognise that a successful partnership with parents is vital to the success of our students and the Sixth Form will liaise with parents accordingly, taking into account the needs of individual students.
