This course is a speaking and listening activity that gives students the opportunity to achieve an internationally recognised qualification along with 24, 27 or 30 UCAS points depending on grading.

This is a one-year course which is taught and examined in Year 12. Students will have 1 taught session per week throughout the year to prepare for the final assessment.
The assessment consists of four sections:
Oral Presentation (40% of assessment)
You will deliver a presentation on a researched subject of own choice using audio/visual material and present personal conclusions. You should support your talk with a digital presentation e.g. PowerPoint. This should last for 5 minutes.
Newspaper Review (20% of assessment)
You lead a discussion based on an article from a quality online or paper-based news source. You give an introductory summary, identify the style, bias and issues raised, and offer an opinion on those issues. You will conclude by summarising the opinions of the group. This should last for 8 -10 minutes.
Literacy Recommendation (20% of assessment)
You give a literary recommendation of a novel, biography, drama, poetry or public address. You then give a 2 minute reading or deliver the piece/an extract from memory. This should last for 4 minutes.
Questions and Discussion (20% of assessment)
You must respond to questions and feedback from the group and the assessor about any section. You should also be prepared to contribute ideas and opinions to develop others’ discussions.
There are three main gradings – Pass, Merit and Distinction with sub gradings for each of these. This is classed as Grade 8 in Speech and Drama for UCAS.
Students must attain a GCSE grade 4 in English
